Toyota Racing Development (TRD) is Toyota’s North American motorsports division, responsible for designing, testing, manufacturing, and supporting racing vehicles and components. Its operations depend on complex internal systems that coordinate engineering, production, and track support.

My Role

Product Design Lead

As the Product Design lead, I led the end-to-end design process from discovery to delivery, partnering with product managers, engineers, stakeholders and operational teams. My role included user research, workflow mapping, stakeholder workshops, UX/UI design, creating production like prototypes, usability testing and building a scalable design system, while leveraging AI-assisted workflows to strengthen collaboration between design and engineering

Challenge

TRD operates in a complex, performance-critical environment supported by their Internal System, the operational backbone behind engineering, manufacturing, testing, and track support.

However, over 20+ years, critical workflows shifted outside the platform into Excel, shared folders, and manual coordination, creating fragmented processes, inconsistent data, and no reliable source of truth.

Solution

The goal wasn’t simply to improve usability, it was to re-establish the platform as TRD’s operational backbone.

By redesigning workflows, reconnecting fragmented processes, reducing manual overhead, and introducing a scalable design system, we transformed the system into a structured, workflow-driven platform built for long-term growth.
